This permit must be arranged in advance to ensure your pet meets UAE transit regulations.

Key Requirements for Pets in Transit

Your pet must travel with all essential documents, including

  1. A valid health certificate.

  2. Proof of rabies vaccination and a microchip.

  3. An “OK-to-Transit” permit secured prior to travel.

FAQs

  • 1. What paperwork do I need to bring my pet to Dubai?
To enter the UAE, your pet will require a valid import permit, an authorized health certificate, an up-to-date vaccination record to include rabies vaccination, parasite prevention treatment, and a rabies titer test certificate if traveling from a high-risk rabies country. We are here to help you secure all necessary documents and meet the required timelines with ease.
  • 2. Will there be someone to pick up and deliver my pet at the destination?
Yes, we provide door to door service. Your pet would be picked up from the beginning of their journey and delivered safely home from the UAE Airport.
  • 3. How can I follow my pet’s journey while they’re on the move?
Airlines usually don’t offer real-time updates for pets traveling in the cargo hold during the flight, but they prioritize your pet’s safety and comfort throughout the journey. Most airlines and pet relocation services do provide travel updates. We collaborate closely with airlines and agents to keep you informed about your pet’s status and ensure their well-being every step of the way.
  • 4. Will my pet be joining me in the cabin, or will they need to take a spot in the cargo hold?
Pets cannot travel in the cabin on commercial flights to Dubai. However, depending on your pet’s size and departure country, cabin travel to Abu Dhabi may be an option. For a more premium experience, private charter flights allow pets to travel comfortably in the cabin. These charters often offer pay-per-seat options for pets but come at a higher cost. If you’re considering a luxurious option, we’d be delighted to help you explore it!
  • 5. What’s the best way to uncover the pet import regulations for the UAE?
You can consult the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MOCCAE) website for the latest regulations or work with us at Pawsome Friends. We’ll ensure you have all the necessary information and documentation.
  • 6. Are there specific breeds that aren’t allowed in the UAE?
The list of restricted breeds includes Staffordshire Bull Terrier, American Pit Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier, American Bully, Brazilian Mastiff (Fila Brasileiro), Argentinian Mastiff (Dogo Argentino), Tibetan Mastiff, Neapolitan Mastiff, French Mastiff (Dogue de Bordeaux), Boerboel, Bullmastiff, Cane Corso (Italian Mastiff), Bully Kutta (Alangu Mastiff or Indian Mastiff), Perro de Presa Canario (Canary Mastiff), Japanese Tosa, and Presa Canario. Before starting the relocation process, it’s crucial to check the breed restrictions. For service animals or emotional support animals, prior approval is required, and you must submit verified supporting documents to secure the necessary permissions.
  • 7. What vaccinations and health documents does my pet need for a smooth move to the UAE?
Your pet must have A valid rabies vaccination certificate (administered at least 21 days before travel) A microchip that complies with international standards A health certificate authorized by the veterinary authority in the country of departure Additionally, your pets must be up to date with vaccinations as highlighted below Vaccinations for Dogs Distemper Canine Parvovirus Infectious Canine Hepatitis Leptospirosis Vaccinations for Cats Feline Panleukopenia Feline Rhinotracheitis Feline Calicivirus
  • 8. When’s the right time to kick off the relocation process for my pet?
Relocating your pet to or from the UAE requires thoughtful planning, especially when traveling to countries with specific requirements like mandatory quarantine. It's advised to start the process at least 3 to 6 months ahead of your planned travel date. Key Factors to Consider: Countries such as Australia, New Zealand, and Singapore require pets to undergo quarantine upon arrival, which can last from a few days to several weeks. To reduce stress, it's important to understand these requirements in advance and plan your pet’s travel accordingly. Transit Considerations: If your pet is transiting through another country, make sure to follow that country's regulations, which may involve extra permits or health checks. Airline Bookings: Since space for pets in the cargo hold or cabin is often limited, it’s important to book early to secure your preferred flight. Starting early gives you ample time to fulfil all health, documentation, and logistical requirements, ensuring a smooth journey for your pet. Let us assist you at every step to make the process hassle-free!
  • 9. Can snub-nosed breeds take to the skies safely?
The ability of snub-nosed or brachycephalic breeds to travel by air depends on various factors, including the season, airline policies, and your pet’s health. Many airlines place restrictions on these breeds during warmer months due to higher respiratory risks, and some may even prohibit them from flying altogether. When you reach out to us, we'll help you explore all options and assist with any extra requirements or paperwork to ensure your pet's journey is both safe and compliant.
  • 10. Is it possible to cancel or reschedule my pet’s travel plans if mine change?
Yes, changes or cancellations are possible, but the flexibility depends on the policies of the airline and service provider. Fees may apply for alterations. To minimize extra costs and adjust your pet’s travel plans smoothly, we recommend notifying us as soon as possible.
